LV’s Monday Meanderings… July 30, 2018

Bonjour! Comment allez vous, Readers? My French is so rusty, I really shouldn’t go there, but sometimes the mind meanders… These Monday Meanderings are making me bold! As you’re all aware by know, you know that I created this regular newsletter since beginning my newest day job to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. This will provide a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. This week, I have exciting news about a book sale to share with you! See below.

Writing, Writing, Writing!

I have so many ideas for new books, but so little time! 🙁 This makes me sad, because I’d love it if I were able to write all the time like many of my colleagues do. But alas, that isn’t my lot in life right now, so I must carry on.

Work is still busy, and I’ve just hired a new employee, so there’s that I have to contend with as well. so while writing is slow, I am also working on some marketing and new covers. Yay! In addition to my backlist I’ll be getting a cover made for the novella I just finished. Again, if any of you know good cover creators who won’t charge me like I’m a New York Times Bestseller, I’d really appreciate a recommendation. I’m also thinking about what the title will be and drafting my summary, so I’m a busy little beaver!

Speaking of writing, if you want to read one of my books while you’re waiting on my new stuff to publish, you can find all my books here: LV Lewis books!

Jungle Fever Duology by LV Lewis

I’m featuring one of my books this week because Jungle Fever Duology is going on SALE for $0.99! Yes, that’s right. The book which usually retails for $2.99 will be on a Kindle Countdown Sale beginning on August 3, 2018!  This is a boxed set of my Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever and Exit Strategy books, so you’ll be getting two books for less than the price of one! How novel is that? So mark your calendars. If you’ve not read these two books, you’re in for a treat, and even if you’ve read, why not consider giving the set to a friend or family member who likes steamy romance novels. You can’t go wrong at this price!

Keisha Beale, a street-wise Chicago south-sider two years out of DePaul University, is a quarter million dollars in start-up capital away from realizing her dream of owning a recording studio/record store. She takes the place of her more business-savvy partner in a meeting with Tristan White himself, the venture capitalist they’ve targeted to fund their business.

A bi-racial–African American and Brazilian–woman with a troubled past, Keisha has been so focused on her business pursuits that her love life has been non-existent. Tristan White is the devastatingly handsome, 32-year old CEO of White Enterprises, the firm he built using only the inheritance his mother left him to prove to his father he had the mettle to do it alone. He comes from a long line of wealth, and lives the life of a “one-percenter” on Chicago’s Gold Coast. Tristan is accustomed to controlling every aspect of his life given his birth into a world of privilege. When Keisha and Tristan’s worlds collide, sparks fly, and a
fever is ignited in them both that they have never experienced before. It turns out they each have secrets, but together, in the unorthodox arrangement Tristan proposes, they discover passions they never knew they had.

Kindle Countdowns are just what the name suggests, a countdown going from it’s lowest price to highest:

Since I’m going there (into the BDSM world), I thought I might include a few other books in this week’s meanderings that brave this subject matter. I recently read a trilogy of books written by Kristen Ashley set in the world of The Honey, an exclusive sex club run by the mysterious Aryas. The books are what I call “grown folks BDSM.” These no-holds-barred books will take you deeper into the lifestyle than any others, so hold onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to be a bumpy, and quite possibly, “painful” ride (but in a good way!). LOL

The Deep End, The Farthest Edge, and The Greatest Risk (The Honey Series) by Kristen Ashley

THE DEEP END

Enter a decadent sensual world where gorgeous alpha males are committed to fulfilling a woman’s every desire…

Olivier isn’t sure what he’s gotten himself into when he joins the Honey Club, only that a dark part of him hungers for the lifestyle offered by this exclusive club. Here, no boundary will be left untested…and one’s deepest fantasies will become an exquisite reality.

When Amélie invites Olivier to surrender, she gives the alpha submissive what he craves. Soon they both find themselves falling harder than they ever anticipated—but as their connection deepens, the truth about Olivier’s past could destroy everything…

Gripping and seductive, The Deep End is the first book in a sensational new series from bestselling author Kristen Ashley.

THE FARTHEST EDGE

Step into the Honey Club, where every sensual boundary will be tested in search of the ultimate pleasure…
Branch doesn’t exist. Living off the grid, he’s looking for a way to forget his past and the guilt that plagues him. But no woman has ever been able to bring him to the edge he craves.
After a traumatic experience of her own, Evangeline stepped away from the decadent world of the Honey Club. But when she gets Branch’s offer—to play without boundaries or commitments—it’s too tempting for her to refuse.
As their passion ignites, Evangeline and Branch push each other to their farthest limit, fulfilling their darkest desires while falling harder and deeper than they ever imagined.

THE GREATEST RISK

A woman unable to connect, struggling to hide another part of her. A man burning to learn her truth, and make her whole. Through explosive passion and deep exploration, they are about to take the greatest risk of all. But will they be able to take that leap, and come out on the other side together? In this next passionate novel in the Honey series, New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley delivers a stunningly romantic and intensely sexy novel that will stay with you long after you turn the final page.

These are each very INTENSE books! The couples featured all come with their own sets of flaws, baggage, and problems to work through and you get a front row seat to see just how they handle the trifecta through the boundaries set in the exclusive Honey Club, and lots and lots of sex! Yet, the sex never seems superfluous, it just kind of happens like it tends to between two people who are attracted to one another and are falling in love. So, if you can handle the serious BDSM play upon entering The Honey Club, I think you just might love these books!

THE ORIGINAL SINNERS SERIES by TIFFANY REISZ

Return to the book that started it all—the sophisticated, edgy and devastatingly sexy beginning to Tiffany Reisz’s Original Sinners series…

In the subsequent books we follow Nora (Eleanor), Søren, Kingsley, Zach and a host of other characters (and from differing points of view) through Nora Sutherlin’s world. This is some serious stuff right here, folks. Don’t sleep on this series. It is complete, so no waiting on the next installment. Here they are listed in order (and a graphic, in case you want to buy them as a set):

The Siren

Notorious erotica author Nora Sutherlin thought she knew everything about being pushed to your limits. But in the world of BDSM, where passion is pain, nothing is ever that simple.

The Angel

Dominatrix Nora Sutherlin is doing something utterly out of character: hiding. It’s a summer that will prove the old adage: love hurts. And no safe word can protect the heart.

The Prince

Two worlds of wealth and passion call to Nora Sutherlin and, whichever one she chooses, it will be the hardest decision she will ever have to make. Unless someone makes it for her…

The Mistress

There’s punishment—and then there’s vengeance… Nora Sutherlin is in handcuffs, held captive by two men. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captors aren’t interested in play. Or pity.

And these are the final installments of The Original Sinners Series:

The Saint

Before she became Manhattan’s most famous dominatrix, Nora Sutherlin was merely a girl called Eleanor…

The King

Cunning. Sex. Pure nerve. Only this potent threesome can raise him to his rightful place as ruler of Manhattan’s kink kingdom.

The Virgin

The lure of the forbidden, the temptation to sin and the price of passion have never been higher, and Eleanor and Kingsley will have to pay it if they ever want to go home again.

The Queen

Once upon a time, Nora and Søren made a fateful deal—if he gave her everything, she would give him forever. The time has finally come to keep their promises…

Misbehaving by Tiffany Reisz ~ #Review #ASMSG #RomanticComedy

Misbehaving coverMisbehaving by Tiffany Reisz

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beatriz, in Tiffany Reisz’s most recent offering, Misbehaving, probably has the most unusual occupation, bar none. She is a hands-on sex blogger. This is her fun job, which alone may not pay the bills, but she benefits from its other perks. The various toys and sex books she receives gratis bring her much pleasure. Pun certainly intended.

As Bea prepares to attend her sister’s wedding, her boss gives her a last-minute assignment, which she’s expected to deliver while she’s playing maid of honor. What she doesn’t know until she arrives at the wedding is that Ben, the groom’s best friend from college, whom she has history with, is there. And coincidentally, the book she’s agreed to review sight unseen, is actually a sex manual, which will require she have a sexual partner in order to try it out, as it were.

It is not hard to figure out who will become her sex partner during the wedding weekend, but the way the story is delivered was actually very surprising. This is not Reisz’s Original Sinners who practice BDSM unapologetically. This is a romantic comedy, which happens to feature a young woman whose job requires her to do things of a sexual nature without the guilt that the average twenty-something single woman might harbor.

Misbehaving is a hilarious romp through Bea and Ben’s libidos, their unfortunate history, and a current love affair that could become derailed yet again by circumstances beyond their control. Find out just what those circumstances are when you read Misbehaving by Tiffany Reisz.

I give Misbehaving five naughty stars!

My Review of The Mistress by Tiffany Reisz ~ #31WriteNow

The Mistress US CoverI am beyond pleased to host The Mistress by Tiffany Reisz on my blog today. This series hold a dear place in my heart, so I was inordinately elated when the opportunity was presented to me by The Novel Tease. There is a tour-wide Giveaway below, so take time and read the entire post so you won’t miss your oportunity to win fabulous prizes!

Book Synopsis:

There’s punishment-and then there’s vengeance.

Nora Sutherlin is being held, bound and naked. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captor isn’t interested in play. Or pity.

As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories-sensual tales of Søren, Kingsley and Wesley, each of whom has tempted and tested and tortured her in his own way. This, Nora realizes, is her life: nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It’s a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.

But in Nora’s world, no one is ever truly powerless-a cadre of her friends, protectors and lovers stands ready to do anything to save her, even when the only certainty seems to be sacrifice and heartbreak…

My Review of The Mistress

Some authors have the amazing gift of being able to revisit characters they create in a series, over and over again, with a fresh plot and an interesting continuation that doesn’t leave the reader bored to tears or drowning in a sea of predictability. The examples that come to mind for me are not erotic romances in the purest sense, but I’ve seen this done by Diana Gabaldon, J. D. Robb, and others that I won’t name here for the sake of brevity. Now I can add Tiffany Reisz to that list, because she is doing this, and doing it well with her Original Sinners series.

The Mistress, the fourth in her eight-book series, which rounds out the four books she dubs the “red years,” did not disappoint. Reisz brought it, just as her readers have begun to expect of her since The Siren burst into the literary world, shocking the socks off some and arousing the hell out of others. There hasn’t been a book or series of this caliber to juxtapose faith against the blatant breaking of all the commandments since “The Thorn Birds,” and the steamy novels of Father Andrew Greeley. I would propose that Tiffany Reisz is the contemporary Colleen McCullough–on steroids!

Reisz is also the queen of the cliffhanger in my humble opinion, because with each and every book she answers more questions about the characters and brings them full circle, but then she creates more and leaves the reader at a point where they are salivating to discover what happens next. She did just this with The Prince, the book just prior to this one. Nora’s vanilla love, Wes Railey, the prince of Kentucky has proposed to Nora in the stables of his family’s horse farm. Just when we believe Reisz is about to give us an HEA, this proposal is interrupted by sinister intruders who knock both Wes and Nora out, leaving Wes to awake to the cold reality of having lost his fiancée just moments after she’d accepted his proposal.

Meanwhile, Nora has been taken by an unknown assailant who leaves a chilling calling card. And while he loathes having to do so, Wes has to call on the very men from whom he’s been trying to wrest Nora away since book one: Soren and Kingsley. Indeed these two are his best and only shot of getting Nora back alive, and Wesley knows this. The Mistress opens with Nora awaking to recognize her captor, and Wesley driving nonstop from Kentucky to New York to enlist the aid of the men whom he believes corrupted his Nora in ways he has abhorred since he learned of their existence. Yet, in this book, Wes will finally reconcile his feelings for Soren and Kingsley, and because I don’t want to be spoilery, I won’t tell you how.

As Nora becomes a modern-day, kinky version of Scheherazade, and entertains her kidnapper with stories of her sexcapades with Soren and Kingsley, her captor’s husband and brother, respectively, she comes to the deadly realization that this woman is stark, raving mad, and she will only come out of this predicament alive if she’s able to keep her wits about her.

Get your copy of the Mistress now, if you haven’t already, and read this remarkable tale of a decades old vendetta one woman has against a man who rescued her from deportation by a marriage of convenience; and see what secret her sibling and this man kept that drove her to the brink of madness. My advice would be if you haven’t read, The Siren, The Angel, and The Prince, begin there, because the story has been so intricately woven together, you don’t want to miss any pieces of the puzzle that lead us to the pinnacle of the otology known as The Original Sinners. Books five through eight, dubbed the white years, will be my most highly anticipated books in a series of all time, since I’m already going through TOS (The Original Sinners) withdrawals.

I give The Mistress four and one half out of five stars only because I felt the handling of Wesley’s character arc was a bit abrupt to me, personally. What happened totally made sense in the long run, but he went from one extreme emotion to another within a span of days. Perhaps it would have been better served to have more time to elapse so the suspension of disbelief wouldn’t have been called into question at all.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

My Review of The Siren by Tiffany Reisz

the-sirenI have been touting Tiffany Reisz’s The Siren as my favorite book within the genre I write since I read it last fall. Because I discovered it in the middle of writing my second book, I didn’t have the luxury of reading it several times and totally immersing myself in Nora Sutherlin’s world like I would have were I not a writer myself.

I miss the days when I was just a reader. As a reader you can read books over and over again until you either get enough, or desire to read more. With great books, you always desire to read more because you just know you’ve missed something pertinent as you devour the words. The Siren falls in the category of “great book” for me and is one that I will read again and again.

There are many things about The Siren I consider utter genius, which I will attempt to share with you in this review. First of all, I love that the heroine, Nora Sutherlin is an erotica writer who practices the peculiar brand of kink she writes about. She is also a Dominatrix whose clientele lists reads like a veritable Who’s-Who in New York City, and around the world. Although she is a best-seller at thirty-three, Nora is not embraced by the literary world, much like a true-to-life erotica writer we all know and some love today. However, unlike this best-selling erotica writer we know today, Nora Sutherlin agrees to work with a renowned editor to improve her story which is being published by Royal House Publishing.

Editor, Zachary Easton, nicknamed “The London Fog” because of his less-than-sunny disposition, has been assigned by his managing editor, J. P. Bonner to make Nora’s new book the stellar literary work it deserves to be. Zach reluctantly agrees to take Nora on conditionally. As he prepares to leave for the L.A. branch in six weeks, he will work with Nora on the rewrites, but he will decide once the book is finished if it should be published. After a rough start, surprisingly, Nora’s writing impresses Zach, and they work very well together–even through the growing attraction they have for each other.

Although they each have previous relationships (and in Nora’s case, a burgeoning current relationship) that preclude anything other than a physical relationship for them, Zach has assured Nora there won’t be any sex until after the book is finished. Nora rises to the challenge and uses this as her motivation to meet Zach’s deadline. She is also very driven, because she hopes her work will finally be validated by her new publisher.

As drawn to Nora as he is, Zach remains irrevocably in love with his estranged wife, Grace, and he tortures himself incessantly for having lost her. His feelings for Grace continue to exist even though he indulges himself with guilt-ridden fantasies about Nora. While Nora remains irrevocably in love with Søren, the man who introduced her to BDSM, and exercises her Catholic guilt over her feelings for Wesley, her nineteen year old assistant. There is a healthy amount of guilt and secrets to go around for all.
Reisz masterfully develops the characters, peeling layer after layer of their secrets back to reveal exactly who they are. Another facet of the genius of the author is her use of the juxtaposition of the sacred and the profane, skillfully interwoven in a way that one might believe revolting to both the truly religious and the atheist alike, but somehow Reisz makes it all work. She also infuses Nora Sutherlin with that inimitable quality that some women possess which makes other women immediately hate her. I expected to despise Nora by the end of the book, but she and all the other players were written so beautifully, the objective reader can only love them and root for them to be happy. However, because there’s only one Nora and three men (in this book) who are part of her romantic life, someone is going to be hurt.

Nora cloaks her vulnerability in a blunt, unapologetic, in-your-face strength that could be off-putting, but you can’t resist loving her, as all the men in her life clearly do. Zach is taciturn and charming, but tortured by a guilty conscience of his own making. Kingsley Edge is one character I really want to get to know better, but what I saw of him in The Siren was very intriguing. Søren is an enigma, but impressive nonetheless. I had a hard time liking him in the beginning, but he redeems himself in my eyes eventually (and I won’t tell you how, because I’m not going to spoil). And, Wes, the vanilla Christian boy who loves a Dominatrix is absolutely fascinating.

This is one of the most intelligently written books I’ve ever read, bar none. It goes to show that even in the genre of erotica; there are also levels of literary greatness to aspire to, and to be achieved. Tiffany Reisz does this in spades.

The Siren savages your emotions, yet leaves you wanting and needing to have your heart shredded anew; as I’m sure Reisz will happily do again in The Angel, The Prince and coming very soon, The Mistress.

I give The Siren five stars.
