Marketing has always been difficult for me. In the beginning I was naive enough to believe that when I posted my book on Amazon, it would miraculously sell on it’s own. That has not been the case. I have had to stop just short of selling my first born to get eyes onto my books, just as most indie writers have done. Amazon owns the algorithm that decides whose books will see the light of day, so in order for indies like myself, who don’t have massive marketing budgets, to get eyes to see their books, we have to buy advertising in numerous ways. This includes buying Facebook Ads, AMS Ads, Bookbub Ads, trying to get on the various books lists, like Bookbub, Free Booksy/Bargain Booksy, Robin Reads, etc.

Marketing for ebooks is very competitive. It is also very subjective because it doesn’t work the same for every author. Many times we are taking a big gamble when we spend our marketing dollars (well at least less prolific writers such as myself are. More popular authors can afford to spend the big dollars on testing ads to get them just right. Less popular authors operate on wings and prayers). We are well aware of the old adage that it takes money to make money, but when you don’t have any to begin with, it is almost impossible.

Recently, I have re-discovered newsletter swaps. This is a cost-free and often fairly lucrative way to market ebooks without a cash outlay. I am beginning this week to swap with some other authors, so you’ll be seeing books from various authors and genres appearing in my Newsletter because other small authors and myself are sharing each others’s books. And let me just say, todays offerings are as HOT as Hell!! Check them out!

I am also still working on getting something out for you guys to read early this year. However, as you all know, I am still working a 60-hour a week day job, and a 20-hour weekend gig, so bear with me. 🙂

In the meantime, you may check out my backlist, as per usual at:  LV LEWIS BACKLIST. <3

Hot Featured Read!

Seduction by Henley Maverick

Any publicity is good publicity, right? Unfortunately, for Alivia O’Reilly, this just isn’t true. Having developed a scheme to create a media ruckus outside of her flower shop, Blooms, to drive up business, Liv was never prepared for the maelstrom her little publicity stunt would create.

Conor, her cousin, funded her little start up business and the extra attention is exactly what he didn’t order. A loan shark tied to organized crime, he prefers to stick to the shadows – as most rats do – and now there’s a spotlight on Liv, putting a wrench in his nefarious plans.

Also watching from the shadows? Rhys Gallagher, billionaire mogul and reformed crime lord. He’s been watching Liv for years, patiently waiting to make his move on the buxom brunette. Now, nothing is going to keep him from her. Not her business, not her independence, not her pride, and certainty not Conor. Because when Gallagher plays, he plays for keeps. And the prize… is Liv’s heart.

“When the time comes, Liv, you’ll make me an offer I can’t refuse.”

Other Steamy Recommendations!

Three years ago, I broke the heart of the woman I loved.
I was too stupid to realize what I had.
Now, years later, I have it all.
Money. Power. Prestige.
It all meant nothing.
Until I met her again.
She was beautiful and tragic, and I wanted her again.
And she hated me.
But I would change that.
This time I would do right by Georgia.
There would be no more secrets.
This time, I wouldn’t give up.
Now that she is back in my life, I’m not going to let her go a second time.

I swore I would never trust Andrew Bryant.
I had loved him, and he threw me away like garbage.
His secrets had torn us apart.
Three years later, I haven’t found any peace.
Now, suddenly, he’s back in my life.
He’s handsome. Sexy.
His smile sends shivers down my spine.
And I don’t want him back.
With my troublesome ex on my back, I have enough to deal with.
But he just won’t leave me alone.
There is nothing in this world that could make me give him another chance.
But why can’t I walk away?
Why does part of me want him to stay?

In a town full of secrets, everyone knows my story
My husband left me for another woman
And I vowed never again.
I threw myself into building my life back up from the rubble it had become.
I made a name for myself with the diner my grandfather left me.
I was strong. I was independent. I needed no one.
Then he came to town.
Exotic and calm, I was drawn to him from the beginning.
He pulled me in and made me feel things I didn’t think were possible.
But can I trust him? Does he feel what I feel?
How can I let him break down the walls I spent so much time building?

After my wife died, I was lost and alone.
I liked it that way.
Relationships only led to pain and I couldn’t live through that again.
But then I met her.
Flaming hair and blue eyes trapped me in her net.
But guilt and grief are hard to let go.
How can I let her in, when I don’t deserve the happiness she offers?
Can the love of Thanksgiving and the magic of Springvale bring us together and banish the ghosts of the past for good?

LV’s Monday Meanderings… August 27, 2018

Happy Monday Readers! I’ve created this regular newsletter since beginning my newest day job to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. This will provide a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. I’ve got exciting news to share with you this Monday. Hope you all have a fabulous week!

Writing, Writing, Writing!

There is an “M” word that most authors dislike more than any we encounter in this industry. That word, my dear friends, is Marketing. For most of us, writing is the easy part (present company excluded). Writing is easy for those who have a unique talent for crafting great prose, for writing riveting dialogue, and drafting plots that will make your toes curl. I only experience this phenomenon sometimes. Usually my writing style is more like giving birth. The story gestates in my head for a while, then I endure the labor pains of putting pen to paper, until a story is birthed months, sometimes years later. No, I am not as prolific as many of my author friends. Writing does not come easy for me (probably because I second-guess myself so much, but that my dear friends, is a story for another time). And, if writing doesn’t come easy for me, one can easily deduce that marketing is a nightmare.

I’ve been around for a while, and actually I emerged on the scene on the other side of the self-publishing bubble. I wish so many times I’d taken the opportunity to self-publish when so many of my peers did, but I didn’t (babies, life, and career happened), and in fact, I got in right around the time the bubble burst. Many friendships had already been formed, acquaintances made, cliques formed, bloggers had chosen their favorites, and most of these early alliances never allowed outsiders in. So, my marketing efforts were done very much through trial and error. The industry changes rapidly. Paradigms are always shifting, so each and every time when I’d finally figured out how to do something in marketing, inevitably that thing was transitioning, and I was never able to quite get it right.

There are many book marketing sites at writers disposal these days. Unfortunately, there are more that don’t work than do, and unless you have a friend or colleague who has used a site and can give you some feedback, it’s trail and error, my dear friends. And trial and error is okay if you have a marketing budget to speak of, but if you’re like me right now, you don’t even have a great budget, let alone a marketing one. I simply cannot afford to spend any money that won’t yield a return on investment, so I’ve been very picky lately. Or I’ve tried to be, and sometimes I still get it wrong. Which hurts my pocketbook so much, it takes weeks to recoup just the tiny bit of disposable income I could find to do marketing.

Recently, ladies and gentlemen, I submitted two of my books for a Bookbub. If you’re not familiar with Bookbub, you absolutely need to be. They are the premiere marketing site for books for authors, and the permiere site for readers looking to find new books. This is yet another marketing site I found out about later than I would have liked, but their return on investment has remained steady despite the shifting paradigms of the book industry. Most authors know that a Bookbub ad will yield dividends that it would take 15 or more author marketing venues to yield (and that is a conservative estimate). They are pricey as f#%k, but they get the job done.

I’m excited to tell you that out of the two books I submitted for a Bookbub, one of them was successful! So at the end of September, my book, The Venture Capitalist, Tristan’s point of view of Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever, will be featured on Bookbub, and I’m over the moon about it. So, stay tuned. I’ll make a big announcement when it gets closer to the time. In the meantime, if you’re not following me on Bookbub, I hope you will, because not only will they keep you apprised of my new books as they come out, they will share my book recommendations, and sales of my books and others, if we’re lucky enough to snag a Bookbub ad. So click on the Bookbub icon below and follow me there. You will be glad you did!

Briar by Ripley Prosperina

My Review

I am part of the original Twilight Fandom, and I have a thing for Vampires. So sue me!

Anywho, I was quite taken by this Reverse Harem spin on the genre. Ripley Prosperina whose other RH books I’ve read really did her thing with this one! Move over J. R. Ward, Ripley Prosperina has created a quartet of Vampires that I love almost as much as your Black Dagger Brotherhood. Hudson, Valen, Sylvain and Marcus, Oh My Effing God! Listen, I guess I need to write a real review of this book, because, really that is the purpose of this venue. Right?

Okay, so Briar Hale is allergic to sunlight, or so she thinks. Her diagnosed condition is EPP (and I won’t even try to remember the medical term here). Whenever she allows any ultraviolet rays to touch her skin she blisters and burns. I’m talking serious second and third degree burns. In fact she’d probably die within a few minutes were she to remain exposed. She moves to Boston to attend Boston College for her Master’s Degree where she attends a symposium for one Dr. Hudson Nors who is the foremost authority on her condition. An accident reaching for a fallen glove causes her to be burned and Dr. Nors and his friend, Marcus come to her rescue. Unbeknownst to Briar they share a bond of brotherhood that she learns about later.

One by one, she meets the four brothers and early on doesn’t know about their connection until she gets lost in the city and decides to take a detour through a wooded area. When she is saved by Sylvain, one of the quartet, from a fate I don’t want to describe here, she befriends them each in turn, despite her rocky start with Dr. Nors (the reclusive and anti-social genius). Soon, Briar learns why Dr. Nors has been notoriously antisocial, and why Marcus, Sylvain, and Valen can’t seem to stay away from her.

As they each seek her out, she develops a caring for each of them she’s never known, since her condition has kept her from having even rudimentary friendships. Despite her early accident and brush with death, she’s determined to stay in Boston and finish the education she’s desired. The brothers become convinced she is fated to be theirs, but she isn’t privy to their feelings until a sinister and deadly threat from their past learns of their connection and his hellbound on removing the sickly girl from the equation.

The story ramps up from there. While Briar’s story is the first and contains all the world-building, it doesn’t detract from the story at all. And, because I knew this was a trilogy, I wasn’t befuddled or unhappy by the way this first story ended. You will be drawn in as I was by how well Ms. Prosperina drew these characters and Briar’s reaction to each of the brothers. Their back stories as are fascinating as the current conflict they find themselves in and I believe you will be as taken as I was by these Reverse-Harem Vampires in this series.

Check out their follow-up books below:

Why We Collaborated on The Venture Capitalist – #ASMSG #KU #IR/MC

eBook Cover - TVC - Final
Tristan’s Point of View Is Here!

Why LaVie and I Had To Write This Story

LaVie EnRose and I teamed up to do this story because she is going solo with Double Switch, and because Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever fans got everything from Keisha’s point of view until Exit Strategy.

Then, of course, some fans were not pleased with the manner in which Tristan was presented in Exit Strategy because his point of view was in third rather than first person. In The Venture Capitalist, fans get to be inside Tristan’s head. They know everything he’s thinking and feeling, and will get that same treatment with The Venture Capitalist Part II which will be Tristan’s POV of Exit Strategy.

LaVie has some of the best ideas and I look forward to collaborating with her again. We are both working on solo projects, and hers are with other publishers, so please be patient. She and I both work full-time jobs and write part-time, but we’re writing as fast as we possibly can!

FYI Jungle Fever Readers: The Venture Capitalist (The Jungle Fever story from Tristan White’s POV, Part I), introduces readers to LaVie EnRose as the writer who will continue the series with Double Switch and In the Paint. LaVie wanted to do something like Grey before delving into the new books. The story narrative is all in Tristen’s head as well as his interactions with Princess Danai, Nathan, and of course Keisha.

The Venture Capitalist is exclusively on Kindle Unlimited at the following Amazon Online Stores:

Handsome Young Sales Man Talking to Clients Through Phone While Typing at the Laptop. Captured Indoor.

The Venture Capitalist II
By LaVie EnRose & LV Lewis

Tristan White thought he was the king of the exit strategy, but Keisha Beale has turned that idea on its head. There is not much time to reflect on the fact that they both have an anxiety disorder before she ends their unorthodox arrangement with two words.

Dominant to his core, Tristan launches one final, desperate appeal to make her stay, but to no avail. Nothing he says or does can dissuade her. Is it the resurfacing of her anxiety episodes, or the feelings she’s developed that he can’t return that makes her hell-bent on leaving him?

Separation brings about its own set of difficulties. His need for control doesn’t allow him to step aside and let his security team handle the credible threat that develops from her association with him. Tristan jumps in with both feet—a move that together with his secrets could prove detrimental to a lasting, loving relationship.
