LV’s Monday Meanderings… November 5, 2018

Happy Monday, Meanderers! As you very well know by now, I created this regular newsletter to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. This will provide a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. This week I’m giving away another book!

Writing, Writing, Writing!

Nanowrimo is a godsend. It is a time when as writers, we are expected to write like the wind, and pen something, regardless of how good it is for the 30 days of November. After it’s done, then you’re supposed to go back and edit until it shines with the perfection you are known for. I am taking part in this year’s nano because I’ve been working too hard to have a set writing schedule. However, I was truly inspired to make writing my habit by Ms. Octavia Butler’s quote. Wish me luck!

Speaking of writing, if you want to read any of my books while you’re waiting on my new stuff to publish, you can find all my books here. Redeeming the Amazon is currently FREE: LV Lewis books!

Promise Me You

by Marina Adair

A heartening romance of friendship, second chances, and the healing power of love…

Mackenzie Hart has made a career out of writing about eternal love, so when she finds her perfect match in Hunter Kane, she decides to put it all on the line. Irresistibly charming and drenched in alpha-male swagger, Hunter isn’t just the catch of the town—he’s Mackenzie’s best friend. Only someone beats her to the altar. After a fresh start and three years to recover, the last thing Mackenzie expects is for her old life to come knocking…

Recently divorced, musician Hunter Kane wants to reconnect with the woman he left behind. Admitting his biggest mistake comes first. What comes next is up to Mackenzie. He hopes she’ll give him a second chance. He may have been the one to break her heart, but he knows he can also be the one to mend it.

As a tenuous friendship turns into something more, Hunter’s life on the road beckons once again. Will love be enough to keep them together, or will their wildly different worlds be too much for them to overcome?

My Review

Marina Adair never disappoints. She sets up believable, realistic romances that grab you and draw you in for the long haul. Promise Me You was no exception. Mackenzie Hart and Hunter Kane’s history involved writing country music together and being the best of friends until Hunter decides to marry someone else and Mackenzie takes her unrequited love and disappears from his life just before the big day. Fast forward three years later and Hunter is in a writing slump, has divorced and is hoping his manager cousin will get this new writing duo to help him pen his band’s next album. Unbeknownst to Hunter, he knows part of the new writing duo very well. Having herself thrust back into the tractor beam that is Hunter was not in Mackenzie’s plans. She’s trying to get her life on track after a debilitating congenital eye disease has stolen her sight, and that is only one of many surprises Hunter gets when she re-enters his musical world. Promise Me You delivers from the first page to the last.

LV’s Monday Meanderings… October 29, 2018

Happy Monday, Meanderers! As you very well know by now, I created this regular newsletter to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. This will provide a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. This week I’m low on items to meander about because I worked extra hours on both jobs last week. But, I do have an excellent novel to share with you that I’ve read recently. Hopefully, I’ll have more to share next week.

Writing, Writing, Writing!

Because my week was spent working hard on both jobs, I hardly got any writing done. This week will be different because I’m scheduling my writing time and actually putting it on my calendar as if it were a meeting. These are the lengths we part-time writers have to go to from time to time in order to get anything done. I have two four hour blocks of time on Tuesday and Thursday to hopefully get a large chunk of writing done.

Speaking of writing, if you want to read any of my books while you’re waiting on my new stuff to publish, you can find all my books here, where most of them are $0.99, even the Venture Capitalist, if you didn’t grab it while it was FREE: LV Lewis books!

The Last Book I Read…

The Fall Before Flight

by L. M. Halloran

There’s off-limits…
and then there’s your psychiatrist.

They call this place Oasis, and he’s the doctor in charge.

He thinks he can save me. Heal me.
Catch me if I fall…
Yeah, right.
Dr. Leo Chastain is a mouthwatering distraction.
For that reason alone, I’m inclined to play his game.
He doesn’t know I’m incapable of emotions that come naturally to others,
like fear, compassion, love…
I might be a sociopath.
I warned him my kind of broken can’t be fixed.
That the harder he pushes, the harder I’ll push back.
Until he’s broken, too.
I warned him.

My Review

The Fall Before Flight is an exceptionally well-written patient-therapist novel. It is also a fantastic, slow-burn romance in which you will feel the tensions rise between the hero and heroine until the pressure explodes! Dr. Leo Chastain and Amelia “Mia” Sloan our male and female protagonists will reel you in quickly and have you hooked on the plot that develops between them. Leo’s character is an enigma, a puzzle that Mia is determined to solve for her own purposes. Mia views herself as a bad girl, broken from a devastating childhood event which no one has been able to rescue her from. I was thoroughly intrigued by her character, because what was first put forth as a cut-and-dried reason for her neuroses evolves into something much more. Mia’s story is made all the more complex through idiosyncrasies deftly revealed by the author, the revelation of which aid in the progression of the plot and her character’s growth. When I began reading, I was wondering how the author would end this seemingly untenable situation between a patient and her therapist without some asinine plot machination that wasn’t believable. However, Halloran was able to suspend the reader’s disbelief and craft a work of fiction that was genius.

LV’s Monday Meanderings… October 22, 2018

Happy Monday, Meanderers! As you very well know by now, I created this regular newsletter to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. This will provide a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. The response to The Venture Capitalist during my Bookbub was so great, I was inspired to work on the follow-up to it, which is titled, “Devil Investor.” See my cover mock-up below!

Writing, Writing, Writing!

During my Bookbub feature on The Venture Capitalist, I had an epiphany after receiving encouragement and having questions from several readers. Tristan’s POV has been dangling in the writer-verse without closure, so it would behoove me to give it to him. Immediately after the Bookbub ran, I began working on the sequel to The Venture Capitalist, which is appropriately called Devil Investor.

Although I work a sixty hour week on my primary job and then moonlight a little on the side, I am determined to get another book out. This one became a priority once readers began to clamor for this story in the Jungle Fever world. Who am I to deny my readers? My goal is to try and get this one out before Christmas. Wish me luck!

I am ecstatic that my Bookbub promo accomplished something I wasn’t able to muster on my own. It got me pumped up to write more stories in my first series. I’ve been waiting for my muse to come back and this promotion was encouragement enough, it seems. So, look for at least a few more books in the Jungle Fever world in the next year or so.

Speaking of writing, if you want to read any of my books while you’re waiting on my new stuff to publish, you can find all my books here, where most of them are $0.99, even the Venture Capitalist, if you didn’t grab it while it was FREE: LV Lewis books!

In the newest novel from internationally-bestselling author Ronald. H. Balson, Liam and Catherine come to the aid of an old friend and are drawn into a property dispute in Tuscany that unearths long-buried secrets

An old friend calls Catherine Lockhart and Liam Taggart to his famous Italian restaurant to enlist their help. His aunt is being evicted from her home in the Tuscan hills by a powerful corporation claiming they own the deeds, even though she can produce her own set of deeds to her land. Catherine and Liam’s only clue is a bound handwritten manuscript, entirely in German, and hidden in its pages is a story long-forgotten…

Ada Baumgarten was born in Berlin in 1918, at the end of the war. The daughter of an accomplished first-chair violinist in the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic, and herself a violin prodigy, Ada’s life was full of the rich culture of Berlin’s interwar society. She formed a deep attachment to her childhood friend Kurt, but they were torn apart by the growing unrest as her Jewish family came under suspicion. As the tides of history turned, it was her extraordinary talent that would carry her through an unraveling society turned to war, and make her a target even as it saved her, allowing her to move to Bologna—though Italy was not the haven her family had hoped, and further heartache awaited.

What became of Ada? How is she connected to the conflicting land deeds of a small Italian villa? As they dig through the layers of lies, corruption, and human evil, Catherine and Liam uncover an unfinished story of heart, redemption, and hope—the ending of which is yet to be written.

Don’t miss Liam and Catherine’s lastest adventures in The Girl from Berlin!

My Review

Some might lament, “Another WWII book?” when they read the description of Ronald Balson’s The Girl From Berlin, but they would be oh so wrong on so many levels! This book is not just another WWII book, it is an excellent book set during that time, and told as the result of a present-day conflict over land deeds of a small Italian villa. Balson is no slouch in the research department. He thoroughly immerses his reader in this time period and gives information that I’ve not read anywhere else. The primary story is a biographical account of Ada Baumgarten’s life as a young Jewish girl in Berlin. The reader gets to follow her through her birth in 1918 to the 1930’s before the war came to Italy and then into the camps with her in the 1940’s. As a very talented violinist, Ada’s life opens up to the reader as if she’s with you having an intimate conversation. She deftly describes the locations, the concert halls, the farm where she lived in a way that brings magical imagery to life. While some historicals seem stilted and not very entertaining for me, I was enthralled by Mr. Balson’s writing. The way that Catherine and Liam were woven into the story through a property dispute in Tuscany was done so well, it was clear that they were incidental to Ada’s story and didn’t take over. The story had a believability about it that some are sorely lacking in these days, and was truly enjoyable. As the author uses Ada’s narrative and Catherine and Liam’s present-day investigation to peel back layer upon layer of conflict, we are exposed to a rich story of overcoming adversity in the most bitter backdrop imaginable. I reminded at times of The Diary of Anne Frank and Schindler’s List while reading The Girl From Berlin.

LV’s Monday Meanderings… After Hurricane Michael!

October 15, 2018

Happy Monday, Meanderers! As you all probably know by now, the Florida Panhandle experienced a hurricane last week, and my home was right in its path! More about this later. Last Monday I was preparing for the storm, so my apologies for those who didn’t get my meanderings. This is my newsletter to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. It provides a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. This week, as usual, I have book recommendations to share and I’m hoping you will in turn share my books with your friends and acquaintances who love romance!

Writing, Writing, Writing!

Hurricane Michael roared through the gulf coast and made landfall on the Florida Panhandle last week, wreaking havoc as these storms are wont to do. Thankfully, we survived with no loss to my family’s lives and minimal property damage. As a transplanted Floridian, I have been weathering these types of storms for approximately fifteen years. Of course, you never get used to them, you just learn better how to cope and prepare. This time, we had battery operated lanterns for the obligatory power outtage, but did not have a generator to keep my refrigerator and freezer going, so of course I lost a good bit of frozen food this time around. I keep saying every time, we should get a generator in the off-season, but then other things occur that need our financial attention more. Then another storm rages through and we wish we’d sacrificed and made that purchase.

There is never any way of predicting how much damage a storm will do and what the immediate aftermath will be like, and this time was no exception. The Florida panhandle is lush with greenery, and in my area there are tons of trees. They are beautiful, but during a storm can become quite deadly. In my neighborhood alone, which has a plethora of mature trees, we had dozens of trees down. But my family was blessed. Our home is surrounded by trees and not a single one fell. The limbs of a massive oak tree, which practically covers my house, bumped the roof top through the heaviest part of the storm, but it did not fall. I thank God for that. A section of our backyard fencing was blown down, and we had small limbs and plenty of debris to litter the yard, but that was the extent of our exterior damage.

As we ventured out a couple of days after the storm, we still saw many of these fallen trees propped up by downed power lines, laying in neighbors’ yards’ (or on their houses), and pushed off of the thoroughfares to allow us to get through to reopening grocery stores and local businesses. McDonald’s with its free WIFI became my go-to place to re-charge my cell phone and kindle (had to have my books to read, because there was nothing else to do except read while the lights were out). Thankfully, the temperatures were milder than usual this time of year, so it wasn’t unbearably hot.

Fortunately, we also had running water, but showers were cold without the electric water heater to make it nice and steamy. We grilled out at night when it was cooler, so we could have hot meals. The local Pulix gave us free ice to keep our perishable foods and water bottles cooled. I am so thankful to them for that, and for being so well-stocked with bottled water this time around that people didn’t have to behave like “Black Friday shoppers” for this necessity.

It is amazing how many little things in our lives we take for granted, until we have to do without them. As a rule, I try to be thankful every day for both the big and small things with which I’m blessed. We came out of this much better than those who were along the gulf coastline and areas that were hit by the most concentrated part of the storm. Many lives and property was lost during this powerful storm’s devastation. There are many families who are still suffering after Hurricane Michael. I pray that you all will think of them, and give to the organizations who are helping them to rebuild their lives. Thank you in advance for your assistance to the victims of Hurricane Michael.

I got minimal writing done during the storm since I didn’t have access to my computer, but I’m getting back on the grind this week now that my power is restored. Speaking of writing, if you want to read any of my books while you’re waiting on my new stuff to publish, you can find all my books here, where most of them are $0.99: LV Lewis books!

the only choice, and their entire world.
I’m also used to succeeding, being recognized

a woman thankfully unexpected,
for Jamie to pique my interest.

Question is: Did it even really matter?

His Gift by Ashlee Price

Description

This Christmas, I’m going to win her back. For good.

The moment Jordan’s doe eyes met mine, I knew I had to have her.
Hard not to when a gorgeous virgin stumbles into your life.
After I claimed her sweet innocence, we lost touch and I focused on building my fortune.
Seeing Jordan while I was taking a holiday break in a small town was an unexpected surprise.

She’s everything I want in a woman.
Kind. Smart. An amazing mother.
But she’s different now.
Her guard is up.
She can pretend to hate me all she wants but she can’t deny our magnetic attraction.
And her son? He sure does look and act a lot like me.

This holiday season, she needs me more than ever.
A snowball of expenses doesn’t help.
It’s obvious that her son needs a father figure.
And don’t get me started on her brother.
Let’s just say we couldn’t have gotten off on any more of a wrong foot.

I didn’t expect to feel this way.
All I know is I’m damn sure I don’t want this to end.
When we’re alone, I’ll make her body tremble with pleasure.
I’ll make her fu$ken mine.
Despite the odds stacked against us.
After all, I have a special gift for her.
