LV’s Monday Meanderings… on a Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday, Monday Meanderers! As you very well know by now, I can’t do any Monday Meandering if a holiday falls on a Monday. It’s impossible. So, here’s this week’s installment of this regular newsletter I created to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. This will provide a way for you to know what’s going on with me even though I’m not camping out on Social Media anymore. This week I read some great books I want to share with you!

Writing, Writing, Writing!

My love of books began when I was learning to read. When the fascination of Fun with Dick and Jane opened up a whole new world for me. As books became my way of escape from poverty and a whole world of drama I didn’t want to face, I immersed myself into the lives of characters who introduced me to worlds I would never have been able to explore with my limited means. I shall forever be grateful to the authors who opened up the world to me in ways I would never have been able to experience without the gift of reading.

Speaking of writing, if you want to read any of my books while you’re waiting on my new stuff to publish, you can find all my books here. Redeeming the Amazon is currently FREE: LV Lewis books!

The Last Book I Read…

The Proposal

by Jasmine Guillory

The New York Times bestselling author of The Wedding Date serves up a novel about what happens when a public proposal doesn’t turn into a happy ending, thanks to a woman who knows exactly how to make one on her own…

When someone asks you to spend your life with him, it shouldn’t come as a surprise–or happen in front of 45,000 people.

When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn’t the hard part–they’ve only been dating for five months, and he can’t even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans…

At the game with his sister, Carlos Ibarra comes to Nik’s rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. He’s even there for her when the video goes viral and Nik’s social media blows up–in a bad way. Nik knows that in the wilds of LA, a handsome doctor like Carlos can’t be looking for anything serious, so she embarks on an epic rebound with him, filled with food, fun, and fantastic sex. But when their glorified hookups start breaking the rules, one of them has to be smart enough to put on the brakes…

My Review

I was anticipating this followup to Guillory’s The Wedding Date. While The Wedding date tells the story of Drew and Alex, The Proposal is the story of Carlos and Nikole. Because Carlos is Drew’s best friend who figured prominently in The Wedding Date, I’m hoping there’s going to be a couple to spin off from The Proposal. I love Jasmine Guillory’s writing just that much. Not only is Guillory recommended by the Roxane Gay, writer of such wonderful nonfiction books as Bad Feminist and Hunger, but she is also a writer of note who pens such believable multicultural novels. Her characters are believable and come from such interesting walks of life you can’t help but be drawn in to their drama. While Carlos and Drew, the male protagonists were both doctors, Nikole and Alexa are strong women who have interesting careers (Freelance Writer and Mayor’s Chief of Staff), and who will only accept the trappings of a relationship on their terms. The feminist slant of these books indeed is what keeps me coming back. Read The Proposal and see how a woman who refuses the ‘grandest of gestures’ proposal of her short-term boyfriend in front of thousands of baseball fans fares in the romance department after the fallout. The Proposal will delight you until the very end.
